homemade

in the beginning of january, i started making and using homemade shampoo. love it! it's cheap as dirt and no one has said anything bad about my hair, but in fact i've received compliments! i've also found the trick to make my hair still feel soft. (i use 3 T baking soda and 1 C h2o)
anyhow, it has inspired me and i decided to make some other things -in an effort to save monies, try to replace some things we love that we might not be able to get in africa, and to make things (i love making things!). todays adventure was homemade toothpaste.
ingredients:
2/3 C baking soda
1 tsp peppermint extract
pinch of salt (optional) makes baking soda more effective

i mix them up and put a dab on my finger. it smells good, nice and minty! i rub a little on my front teeth -bleck!!!!! so salty. it's bad enough that i'm willing to nix the whole batch and try again. that little jar of peppermint was $4.19! quite a gutsy move.

anyhow, i start over. this time i omit the salt. same taste. i even added a little peppermint to try to mask the flavor...to no avail. needless to say, 2 batches of homemade toothpaste went down the drain this am in the marlin house! guess we're packing some tubes in our action packers!
