the BIG PICTURE

we have really begun to enjoy our new bible!!! i heard about it through the grapevine and decided to buy it. i LOVE the illustrations and i LOVE the wording! i even notice exact wording from the bible which i LOVE is how the boys will learn the stories. i have had bibles to read to them, but this one is by far my favorite!!! i'm writing the first story so hopefully you can understand why i appreciate it. it is done in "chapters" which we read one at a time. here goes it:

THE VERY GOOD BEGINNING

THE BIBLE IS GOD'S STORY,
AND IT BEGINS WITH THESE BIG WORDS:
"IN THE BEGINNING,
GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH."

DO YOU KNOW HOW GOD CREATED EVERYTHING?
SIMPLY BY SPEAKING WORDS.
IMAGINE, MAKING THE WHOLE WORLD WITH WORDS!
STRONG WORDS.
POWERFUL WORDS.
WITH WORDS
GOD CREATED EVERYTHING!
HE MADE THE STARS,
THE SUN, AND THE MOON.
HE MADE THE ANIMALS,
THE FISH, THE TREES, AND FLOWERS TOO.
EVERYTHING!
AND THEN AFTER ALL THESE THINGS,
GOD CREATED...

PEOPLE!
CAN YOU SEE ADAM AND EVE?
GOD PUT HIS PEOPLE IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN.
THEY WERE MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD.
THEY WERE TO BE THE RULERS OF GOD'S PLACE.

ADAM AND EVE WERE VERY SPECIAL TO GOD.
DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE ALSO VERY SPECIAL TO GOD?
YOU ARE SPECIAL BECAUSE YOU ARE MADE IN HIS IMAGE TOO!
BEING CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD MUST HAVE MADE ADAM AND EVE VERY, VERY HAPPY.
GOD WAS HAPPY TOO.
HE WAS PLEASED WITH HIS WORLD AND HIS PEOPLE
BECAUSE HE SAW THAT THEY WERE VERY GOOD.
NOTHING WAS WRONG.
NOTHING WAS BAD.
NOBODY DISOBEYED GOD.

IN THE VERY GOOD BEGINNING,
EVERYTHING AND
EVERYONE
KNEW HOW GOOD GOD WAS.
GOD GAVE ADAM AND EVE GOOD WORDS TO OBEY.
HE TOLD THEM NOT TO EAT FROM A SPECIAL TREE.
YOU SEE, GOD WAS TEACHING ADAM AND EVE THAT HE WAS THEIR KING,
THAT PEOPLE WERE TO OBEY GODS WORD.
GOD ALSO SAID THAT
IF ADAM AND EVE DISOBEYED HIS WORD,
THEY WOULD SURELY DIE.
SO GOD'S PEOPLE, ADAM AND EVE,
LIVED IN GOD'S PLACE, THE GARDEN OF EDEN.
AND THEY RULED GOD'S WORLD
BY OBEYING HIS GOOD WORD.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?

part 2: a very sad day....
i'm not going to keep going, but if you're interested in reading more you can always ask to see it when you're here or check it out online @ amazon.com! the wording is very easy for young readers to understand and makes the stories easy to remember and talk about. we have been having disobedience issues and i have been able to remind o of this story a few times already. just thought you'd want to think about another option!

(please do note: i am very thankful for joe attempting to make coffee for me! next time i think it may work a little better if he actually puts coffee in with the brew! imagine, this guy used to manage a coffee shop!!)

impulse decisions and a happy find!

impulse decision #1 for the day =
paint my room "appletini" green!
i LOVE it!
(p.s. sorry for the cat's bum in the pic)

below is a shot of the other side of the "new" room.
got a duvet/2 pillowcase set for $9.99,
2 lime green pillows for $3.99 &
a lime green throw for $3.49.
that's a new looking room for about $20!!!

a few new apple scented candles!
huh, i just now realized the irony of apple candles in an
"appletini" colored room.
i didn't even do that on purpose!!

a close up of the duvet and the throw.
love the simplicity of it!!!

impulse decision #2 for the day =
chopped the hair again!

notice the happy find i'm wearing?
this is my new pea coat i scored at the ghetto fabulous forman mills!
it's super cute -you have to see the whole thing!!
which you will this winter!

our display - finished!

i've been working hard on our display board, with every free minute squeezing pictures together in publisher to make as little paper used as possible. today was the first day that joe needed it. while i don't think it's completely finished, it looks good and gets the point across! i can't wait to see how this tool can be used in our support raising! please come to liberti next sunday for a dessert after church and to hear more about our dreams for the near future. -you'll also get to see me in that changa pictured on my facebook profile!

to have a blackberry...

or not to have a blackberry?

funny story these blackberries, and my friend would not be happy if i just left these photos up here without explanation!
there were these huge and very yummy looking blackberries at their house when we went to visit. so politely nicholas offered me one, so i reluctantly ate it to be polite. it was the most bitter blackberry i had ever eaten. without thought my face puckered right up!! nicholas (and joe might i add) thought this was hysterical! they enjoyed my face [reaction] so much, that it was all they could do not to laugh. nicholas knew they were a bitter bunch, and wanted to see what i would do. he was playing a practical joke at my expense! :)
well, i also like to joke with nicholas. he is a big picture guy! he loves to have pictures perfectly posed and the surroundings just right. he has to be making a perfect face too. later in the evening i got him to offer a second blackberry with camera in hand and the second shot was what i got. PERFECT to show the true nature of the offer! now who was laughing!!!
it slightly reminds me of the cartoon image of an angel on one shoulder telling you the wise choice and the devil on the other shoulder saying "take some fruit, eat!"

growing up

one of my favorite pictures of all time is this shot of owen with 2 of his cousins, austin and patrick. it was taken at austin's birthday party in 2009. without even thinking about it, i asked the cousins to get together for a shot at austins birthday party this year (last weekend)...it is yet another great shot, this time even including kk!!!
i hope these guys can always be good
friends, even when the times between seeing each other grows!! and i'm amazed at how much they've grown in just one year!!! next year i'll work on getting the little guys in the shot too!!

happy birthday aust!!!

mohawk buddies

justin is our friend, but o has had a long standing "fear" of him. i believe it's for 2 reasons....

1. pogonophobia (fear of beards -like my s.a.t. word??)
2. non-fear of fear (justin is not scared to persist talking to and attempting to play with o, even when o is scared! most people back off. i like that justin persists b/c it teaches owen to make relationships even when it's hard!)

anyways, an instant bond was made the week they both showed up at church with mohawks!!
tks justin for always pushing to be owen's friend and for letting us take a picture of the 'hawk!
*p.s. i still think kurts "mr. t" comment was best!!

the african marlins

last weekend we went to visit our friends,
the obieros, in DE.
milly was so kind to give me a conga
(photo above),
which is a typical thing for women to wear in africa.
she picked a special one for me and my blue eyes!
she took time to teach me to make chapatis
(photo below),

which are a type of bread they use
to pick up food to eat (rather than silverware),
and even taught me to prep sakuma wiki,
which is a common dish (at least in kenya).
i so enjoy her friendship and hope
to learn much MUCH more from her!

oh, and did i mention she made her infamous beef stew....
(photo above)
i ate it for dinner, and then
had leftovers for breakfast & lunch the next day!!!
the boys thought the congas were great,
so she let each of them try it too!!
(photos below)

owen and aiden have a particularly special bond
with their son keith!
i love to see them all play together
and hear their excitement about going to visit
auntie milly, uncle nicholas & keith!!!

i've got a secret...

can i just say YUM?
!?

i've learned how to make a tomatillo salsa verde, and it reminded me so much of
mexico i almost cried!

i can't believe i have been to mexico so many times, and it was not until now that i learned how to make it! look what i've been missing out on!!!

the only way i'm gonna share it, is to teach it (just like was done for me)! if you wanna know how, connect with me and we'll have fun cooking up some chicken
enchilladas for my family and yours!

*thanks to "miss suzanne" who not only taught me, but was willing to come to my house to make it with me and to play with my kids while i took notes! i had a great time and look forward to sharing batches with you in the future!

patio picnic

today was a perfect day
for a patio picnic!!!
i love these boys...
and their peanut butter & fluff faces too!!

my "big boy" owen

my sweet aiden!

the many faces of owen

owen has been a real goofball lately,
filled with many surprising faces!
tonight we decided to try to capture some of them...
he kept making new ones and i tried to snap as fast as i could!
